What’s In?

“Brides are interested in a clean and traditional invitation with a little more pizzazz than the ordinary classic,” says Scheffler.  Die-cuts are being used now and invitations have taken a modern twist by adding color, such as soft blues or some moss.  Trends are also shifting toward brown this year.  “Somehow the stark white is not a favorite, “Scheffler says.

Thank Star Jones for the brown trend.  Ever since the talk-show host revealed her Espresso-colored invitations by Encore Studios on The View and elsewhere, stores that carry the line, including Scheffler’s, are inundated with requests for similar styles.

“As far as personal stationery goes, brides tend to like the informal notes that have both the bride and groom’s first names with their intended last name,” says Denise Scheffler of An Inviting Event, Boca Raton. “I am seeing both simple and traditional to very contemporary.  They want the stationery to be useful for their future.  Also engagement informal notes would be the first names of the engaged couple.

Save-the-Date Cards

Another great contrast, especially with an over-the-top wedding, is a save-the-date that displays the couple’s childlike innocence.  Ok, maybe innocent isn’t the operative word; after all, as Scheffler notes, “Most times the intended brides and grooms are living together and announcing the wedding as well as paying for it themselves.”
